It’s always a treat to take advantage of the PNW’s beauty, and when the Leenstra family chose Tipsoo Lake in Mt. Rainier National Park to be the spectacular backdrop for their session, I was thrilled. I’ve traveled to the Seattle area multiple times, but had never made it up to Tipsoo Lake, so I was especially excited to shoot there. Because the Leenstra’s love the outdoors and are avid hikers, it was a meaningful location to explore.

As we embarked on the trails, I commented on how perfectly outfitted they were and that they looked like they should be on a clothing ad. I loved the blues, white, and mustard of their wardrobe and how it complemented the scene by adding that extra pop of color and contrast to the earthy tones.

I felt major “The Sound of Music” vibes as we took in the view, and their session was relaxed and fun.

Photographing families is so special because kids change in the blink of an eye and it’s an honor to photograph a particular season in a family’s life. Whenever I’m behind the camera, I love  to capture connection with hugs, arms wrapped around each other, and smiles as the parents look at one another and are reminded that they get to call those beautiful faces their own.
